Want to drive a quarter midget?

First Step

Attend a race at THQMA and see the action for yourself. Another great step would be to participate in one of THQMA’s Quarter Midget “Arrive & Drive” events. This allows you the opportunity to see if you and your child would like to become involved in the most fun and safest form of motorsports designed specifically for kids.

Quarter Midgets and Equipment

Purchasing a Quarter Midget is a big investment. You have the option of purchasing new or used cars and equipment. When looking at used Quarter Midgets, shop around, compare, and ask plenty of questions. Try to get a “package deal” which may include spare parts and/or safety equipment. Check out the classified sections of www.quartermidgets.org and www.quartermidgets.com for used Quarter Midgets and equipment. Remember, if in doubt, ask some of the THQMA members for advice.

QMA Membership application

Complete the Quarter Midgets of America (QMA) membership application. We will need copies of Birth Certificates for the drivers listed on the application. It will also be necessary to submit a 1-inch by 1-inch photo of each of the handlers (Parents) listed on the application, so an identification badge can be made.

Membership costs

THQMA’s club fee is $50.00 The QMA National Organization fee is $75.00 which puts the total cost of a QMA family membership at $125.00 per year.

Refundable Concession Stand Fee

An $80 Concession Stand fee has been put in place to assist with getting members to help work in THQMA’s Concession Stand. The fee is set up so that each time you or a member of your family works in the Concession Stand, you get refunded $20. After you have volunteered 4 times, you will have been refunded your whole $80 Concession Stand Fee.

Novice Training

After you have all of your necessary safety gear, equipment, and Quarter Midget racecar, it’s time to begin your child’s Novice Training. THQMA’s Novice Trainer will work with you in arranging a Novice training schedule for your driver.

The first stage of Novice Training is a classroom session, where the basics are explained. At this time it is also advisable to have your Quarter Midget and safety equipment along so THQMA’s Safety Director can inspect for legal certification and for proper mechanical operation. From there, THQMA ‘s Novice Trainer will guide you and your family on a fun and rewarding experience in Quarter Midget racing.
